Harbor & Vine

About Harbor & Vine

A dining room that fits 54 people and about four conversations.

Harbor & Vine opened in 2016 in a narrow storefront two blocks up from the water. The plan was simple and has not changed: cook the season, keep a cellar list that rewards curiosity, and be the place people in Birch Harbor come back to on an ordinary Tuesday.

The kitchen is small enough that the person who wrote the menu is usually the one cooking it. The bar keeps a short by-the-glass list that turns over often, so there is always something new to try without committing to a bottle.

How we run it

Four rules the kitchen actually keeps.

  1. 01

Cook what is actually good this week

The menu is rewritten on Mondays. If the whitefish is not right, it comes off, even if we printed it Friday.

  2. 02

Buy from people we can call

Most of what lands on the plate comes from a short list of growers and boats within a couple of hours of here.

  3. 03

    Pour honestly

Nobody upsells you here. If the bottle at the lower end of the list is the better drink tonight, that is what you will hear.

  4. 04

Let a table stay a table

We do not run two seatings on one table. When you sit down, the evening is yours for as long as you want it.

The bar seats nine and never takes reservations. If the dining room is full, it is the best seat in the building anyway.
